The MIG-21 has been built in greater numbers than any fighter since WWII, built in more versions than any fighter since WWII, has equipped more air forces than any fighter in history, and has been in more wars in more diverse parts of the world than any aircraft in history.
The MIG-21 has gone up against virtually every Western fighter and even other MIGs. with the right pilot and the right tactics it is still a formidable foe.
The aircraft, first flown in 1959, is still in service with many airforces. It is destined to have the longest active life of any combat aircraft in history.
Our MIG-21U-600 (Mongol-B to Nato) was built in the USSR in 1968. It was transferred to the Hungarian Airforce where, since Hungarian pilots were trained in the USSr or Czechoslovakia, it remained a low time aircraft. The museum obtained the aircraft in July 1997.
It is a light weight aircraft with a powerful engine (comparable to the F-104 of the same era). Our MIG is maintained and flown in a professional manner on a regular basis.
